Hemel Hempstead

Wednesday 7th August 2013
The weatherman promised us bright sunshine this morning, with a chance of showers during the afternoon.
Once again they got it wrong. This morning it was light overcast, which didn't burn off until around midday. Later it brightened up considerably, and the sun got quite hot.
Setting off this morning we went through the first lock alone, but by the second we had picked up a partner. For life of me I can't remember the boat name, but it was a small tug style boat, with a crew of 4. What workers they were. The chap and his wife who were guests on the boat never stopped, the bloke walked every lock down as far as Hemel Hempstead, and we took it in turns to walk ahead to prepare the next lock. My rule is that if it's more than 1/2 a mile I'll ride!
We made good progress and finally tied up near bridge 151, the A414 road into town.
After lunch I took a wander to explore the shopping, but it's all 'shopping', not provisioning, so tomorrow we'll move down a couple of locks to where there is supposed to be a Sainsbury's and do some provisioning before carrying on a bit further.
The internet connection here is very poor so
